Ice Cream Birthday Party

Here’s the Scoop!
Adley’s Birthday Party is Sunday, January 29, 2-4 pm

Oberweis Dairy

Join us for an ice cream Sundae Bar, Crafts & Games!

Party guest arrive and help color in a Happy Birthday Adley Banner.
Thanks GrandMary for this great find!

The dairy decorated with balloons and the message on the mirror.  Then they took orders for ice cream and set out a sundae bar including our favorite toppings: strawberries, chocolate, crushed Oreo's, M&M's, sprinkles, cherries and whipped cream.  YUM!

Adley ordered chocolate chip with M&M's, sprinkles and a cherry.
And....a candle on top with a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday from her friends - 8 guests, plus sister.

Cana had cookies n' cream with sprinkles

Adley opening presents and all her friends clamoring to be next with their present. Daddy helps matching the cards, most of which included original artwork and were very special.

We enjoyed several crafts including bendaroos, rainbow scratch art and making a miniature ice cream sundae.  Everybody did a good job of playing Simon Says while holding their balloon in their party hat like an ice cream cone - too good.  We had to stop that game because Mommy was getting tired!  Then we tossed Oberweis milk bottle caps into a bucket in a sort of homemade ring toss game which was surprisingly difficult and required lots of practice.  As each person prevailed they chose a prize from the prize box which was very popular.  Note to self - buy more slinkies!

Turning 5 Rocks!

The photography suffered slightly due to the tremendous amount of activity that afternoon.  We planned some backup help with Cana and the party but that fell through and Cana was under the weather and needed to stay close to Mommy and Daddy.  The best laid plans...

Matching Dresses

We had this little black dress for Cana with an adorable matching coat.  And GrandMary and GrandpAl found a remarkably similar black dress and matching coat for Adley for her birthday.  Of course, the girls brought the coats with them but didn't want to wear them and they were nowhere to be found for picture time.

Next time...

Children's Museum

We planned to take the girls to the Children's Museum on Friday morning as part of our family day.  That morning, we asked Adley what she wanted to do and, as if on cue, she said "Go to the Children's Museum."  Later that night after all the excitement, Adley emphasized several times that our trip to the Museum was all her idea.  It may or may not have to do with the fact that she is "now 5!" and she has lots of good ideas.

Birthday Anticipation

Adley officially turned 5 on January 26.
That day, a Thursday, was a very busy day.  Fortunately, Adley was flexible and agreed that we could celebrate as a family on Friday, thus adding another day of partying.

Wednesday:
Daddy visits preschool to read Adley's favorite story to her class
Thursday:
Adley brings snacks to her preschool class and is the leader for the day, the class sings happy birthday and she wears her birthday crown all day.
Friday:
We start off family day with all the decorations that come with a birthday and admiring the presents for later.
Then we head to the Children's Museum for a morning of fun and a lunch at a nearby restaurant - Nicky's.
Daddy heads off to work while the girls went home to make cupcakes and bake a cake.
Birthday supper of spaghetti and meatballs.
Presents and Birthday cake!
Sunday:

Let the Celebrating Begin

For your birthday in Adley's preschool class, you are to invite one of your parents to come and read your favorite story.  Adley asked if her Daddy could come and read the story because no Daddy's had come to read yet and this would be special.  Also, on your special day you bring a special birthday snack to the class. Adley brought pink and white frosted animal cookies and milk which the kids loved.

Daddy had a conflict with reading the story on the right snack day so he came on Wednesday and Adley brought snack on Thursday.  That's my girl, she got 2 special days!

Daddy read "Muncha, Muncha, Muncha" by Candace Fleming and G. Brian Karas.

Snowstorm #1 - January 12, 2012

Thursday January 12 we had several inches of snow
Due to the temperature plunge shortly afterwards, we didn't get to go outside to play in the new snow until Monday afternoon.  As you can see, by then, much of the snow had melted.

One small hill of snow to sled down even if its mostly grass in the background.

Thanks for the ride Daddy!

A snow angel?  Or grass angel?

Cana loved playing in it and eating the snow.  She wasn't too sure about walking in it...

Adley and Daddy built a snowman with the meager amount of snow that was incredibly wet and heavy.

A very respectable snowman indeed using the kit we received for Christmas with all the accessories.
