Choo Choo Johnny's

After the closing program of VBS we went to lunch at Choo Choo Johnny's.
The train brought us our lunch which we enjoyed and then asked the train to come back for a quick photo.
Thank you Mr. Jeff for the gift card for this fun lunch.

Adley is in the pink group and Cana is on the sidelines with Daddy.
Adley couldn't be more excited.  Cana can't wait for next year.

VBS 2012 with Mommy
This is the first year that I haven't had a role in helping with VBS.  It was a learning experience in the art of saying no and sitting on my hands.  It was tough to not jump in and get involved in something that is usually so much fun.  We decided as a family, however, that this was not a summer we could afford to over-extend ourselves. And you know what?  VBS was awesome without me.  Who knew?

Is Anybody There?

"Help. I have two older sisters!"

My Buddy

Since Simeon's birth we have been singing the commercial from the My Buddy doll from the 1980's. OK, truth be told, Mommy started it.  But its so cute that the girls follow suit.

"My Buddy, My Buddy, Wherever I go, he goes.
My Buddy, My Buddy, I’ll teach him everything that I know.
My Buddy and me, Like to climb up a tree.
My buddy and me, We're the best friends that could be.
My Buddy, My Buddy, My Buddy and Me!"

Beating the Heat

All the high temps have kept us indoors recently so to take a break and stave off cabin fever we went to church during the day on Thursday.

"We're Little People making lots of plans.
Little People with helping hands.
L:ittle People who like to work and play

Toy Storage

Before and After
Since we rearranged the furniture in the girls room we had this corner space.  The long laundry basket on the floor was always overflowing with toys and spilling out into the room.  We moved the cubby system to the left 3 inches and we had room to store the laundry baskets in parallel.

Now we have the humidifier up top and in the baskets from top to bottom: extra blankets for the girls beds, stuffed animals, dress-up clothes, mega-blocks, little people vehicles and play sets with the bottom basket for dirty clothes.  Yay!

Ok, maybe its a mom thing to be this excited.
Thank you pinterest for the inspiration and to Jared for building it so fast.

We have some more organizing to go (top of cubbies, etc.) but the toy situation is MUCH better.

Playground

Adley knows how to have fun and the minute we pull up to a playground both girls take off.  Recently, however, Adley has also been taking advantage of Mommy and her camera, asking for me to "Take a picture. This is cute!"  Cana does the same thing, but without asking and just leaning in and saying "Cheese!" even without a camera in sight.

This apparatus has been bothering Cana for months.  She has been wanting to cross this "bridge" of steps and couldn't quite make those legs reach across the span.  We stopped her a couple of times in the past to tell her this was for big kids and that she needed to wait awhile.  As you can see, persistence is key.

Shop Mate

From Jared's Shop:
I thought you might want to see my new tool tote and shopmate.  The dark wood (walnut) is from
the log that dad had rough cut for me over Christmas. The tote was 90%
done with old-fashioned hand tools, including the dimensioning (I did
make a few rip cuts on the table saw).

Simeon loves it.  He's inspected it inside and out.

Gardening

Check out that garden growth. Too bad its all weeds.
I guess when you have a baby in April you get a late start on the garden.

It sure is a good thing we have lots of help.

Making the second Square Foot Garden Box.
This will double the size of the garden from last year.
Its all about baby steps.

The raised bed is cleared and ready for planting.
It was hot and we were tired so planting would wait for another day.

Can you tell how much fun she had by the amount of dirt on her face?
